Company Profile
HistoryJim Allred founded Allred Radio in 1976 in Blanding, Utah. It has served the Star Valley area since 1984. Originally a sales and service shop for 2-way radios, we have branched out to cover other areas of electronic communications. In 1988 we became a licensed Radio Common Carrier (RCC) and provided Star Valley with the first radiotelephone interconnect service in history. In 1993, when Union Cellular came to town, we were their first authorized agent. 1998 brought Dish Network satellite television systems. With the intense interest in DSL or High Speed Internet service, we wanted to be able to provide that service by radio to homes outside of DSL service areas. In partnership with Salt Creek Networks of Afton, we formed Star Valley Wireless, Inc in 2000 and became a Wireless Internet Service Provider. We started providing tone and voice paging service as a Private Carrier in 1987. A new paging terminal and new digital transmitters brought an upgrade to numeric display paging in 1996. After a devastating fire destroyed our paging terminal in 2001, it was replaced with a unit capable of alpha text paging. The dream of Wide Area paging coverage became a reality in 2003 when our system was tied into a large multi-state network engineered by Page One of Wyoming in Cheyenne BiographiesJim Allred was born and raised in Afton. He received a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from Ricks College in Idaho. He started his career as the Communications Engineer for San Juan County in Monticello, Utah. He also ran a private shop as Canyonlands Communications in Blanding. Ten years later, he moved home to Afton and started Allred Radio. He and his family enjoy the wholesome atmosphere in the Star Valley area. Justin Cook was born and raised in Afton. He received a degree in Electronics Technology from EITC in Idaho Falls, Idaho. While there, he worked as an IT intern at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory.
